As part of its ongoing commitment to improving the professional competence of Vietnamese seafarers, SUNRISE MANPOWER CO., LTD successfully organized a Specialized 4th Engineer Training Session.
The training focused not only on strengthening technical knowledge but also on providing participants with opportunities to work directly with equipment, discuss real-life operational situations, and learn practical experience from experienced Chief Engineers.
This training program is one of SUNRISE MANPOWER’s practical initiatives to support seafarers in enhancing their skills, becoming more confident in their duties, and maintaining safe operations on board.
In shipboard operations, theoretical knowledge becomes truly valuable when it can be effectively applied to real-life situations. For engineers, understanding equipment, recognizing abnormal conditions, and responding correctly to technical issues are essential skills.
With the principle of “learning by doing,” the training session focused on practical and job-related knowledge for 4th Engineers.
???? Strengthening Technical Knowledge
The participants reviewed and discussed key technical topics, including:
The training went beyond theoretical knowledge by connecting each topic with actual equipment operation, inspection, and maintenance practices on board, allowing participants to better understand and apply what they learned in their daily duties.
A key focus of the training was the analysis and troubleshooting of common equipment failures and operational issues.
Through practical discussions and real-life scenarios, participants had the opportunity to improve their ability to identify abnormal conditions, determine possible causes, and select appropriate corrective actions, while reinforcing the importance of following proper safety procedures.
The training was not limited to classroom theory. Participants were given the opportunity to work directly with equipment and carry out practical inspection and maintenance activities under the guidance of experienced engineers.
This hands-on approach helped participants strengthen their practical skills and gain a better understanding of the equipment they may be responsible for operating and maintaining on board.
One of the highlights of the training was the practical experience shared by experienced Chief Engineers.
Real situations encountered during ship operations, troubleshooting experiences, and important operational considerations were openly discussed with the participants.
The training atmosphere was professional, interactive, and open, encouraging participants to ask questions, share their own experiences, and discuss technical challenges they may encounter during their time on board.
Through the Specialized 4th Engineer Training, SUNRISE MANPOWER aims to provide seafarers with not only technical knowledge, but also practical experience and greater confidence in carrying out their duties on board.
The Company believes that continuous learning, practical training, and knowledge sharing are essential to helping seafarers strengthen their professional competence, respond more effectively to operational challenges, and contribute to safer ship operations.
SUNRISE MANPOWER will continue to develop practical training programs and learning opportunities, with the aim of supporting seafarers, improving the quality of maritime manpower, and contributing to the development of a more professional and capable Vietnamese seafarer workforce.

Anchoring in deep water requires the Master and deck team to carefully assess the water depth, required anchor cable length, windlass capacity, and loads acting on the anchoring system. This article presents practical principles and calculations for deep water anchoring, together with key considerations during anchoring operations, anchoring large vessels, and anchor watch, with the aim of ensuring the safety of the vessel, equipment, and crew.
See moreThe Night Order Book is an important tool for the Master to communicate specific instructions and safety precautions to the Officers of the Watch during the vessel’s night passage. The Night Order should be regularly updated to reflect the actual voyage conditions, weather, navigational area and operational status of the vessel, while remaining consistent with the Company’s SMS and relevant OCIMF/SIRE 2.0 practices. For LPG/LNG carriers, oil tankers and chemical tankers, particular attention should be given to navigational safety, CPA/TCPA, weather conditions, navigational equipment, cargo operations and other vessel-specific risks. For LPG/LNG carriers, additional considerations may include cargo tank pressure and temperature, the reliquefaction plant, gas detection systems and cargo tank conditions.

Although they are not standard factory equipment, many shipowners require their installation to protect crew members from high-temperature combustion gases that may escape under abnormal cylinder pressure, especially during main engine starting. The article explains the reason for their installation and why the arrangement may differ between engines of the same type.
